  Probably a master’s degree. The counselors and therapists I’ve known usually had master’s degrees. But to be sure, call up the sort of place you’d like to work at eventually and ask them about their requirements (or search their website for them).

  Interesting question. You can go either of two routes for this:

  - Bachelors degree in social work, and become a social worker. You’d eventually add on a masters in social work. Or,

  - Bachelors in psychology, then go on for a masters in counselling, or a PhD, or an MD – depending on the type of mental health work you want to do.
